As we wrap up this school year it is important to let our students go on their summer breaks with a little bit of fun. Ever since the pandemic began there has been a shift in how we traditionally teach our students, virtual learning was a new experience for me and I'm assuming that it was the same for you, it made me rethink the way that I structured my lessons. To end this year on a high note, I have decided to share some of my ideas for virtual activities that can be used on the last week of school to celebrate the end of another academic school year.
Digital End of The Year Memory Flipbook
A memory flipbook is perfect for students to revisit the most special moments of their school year. Students will be able to reflect and write about their experience of the school year when they fill out the memory flipbook. In this digital memory flipbook, students can write about their school, themselves, their favorites, their best memories, a letter to themselves, and their goals for next year.
Host a Virtual Graduation or Moving Up Ceremony
Host virtual graduation or moving up the ceremony to make your students feel special and to let them know that you are proud of them. You can host a virtual graduation ceremony on Zoom video call. Create a virtual graduation stage background on PowerPoint or Google Slides and insert pictures of students and their certificates on the slides. Share the PowerPoint or Google Slides on a Zoom call, call out each student's name, and show the slide with their picture and certificate. Students can turn on their mics share a special memory from the school year.
Send Digital End of The Year Awards / Certificates
Giving students an award/certificate will let them know they have worked really hard this year and you are pleased with their achievement. Email your students an award/certificate for them to see and be proud of.
The last week of school is both memorable and meaningful, but most of all FUN! Read below about some fun activities you can do during the last week of school.
Would You Rather...?
A fun would you rather activity has never failed to work in my classes, giving students an activity where they have to pick between two different options has allowed me to understand how each one of my students thinks and what they like. The activity can simply consist of end-of-the-year questions that will get students excited for their vacations.
Stand Up Sit Down
During the last few sessions of every school year, I begin to notice that students become less attentive during the lessons as they become anxious to start their vacations. One thing that has always worked for me is to get my students moving and being physically active, a simple stand-up and sit-down exercise always comes in handy during these moments. This end-of-year themed activity involves asking students questions based on the theme and letting students answer by either standing up or sitting down based on their response.
End of Year Reflection/Chat
It is important to wind down this year with an exercise that allows students to reflect on their entire school year. This activity is great as it will encourage students to reflect and share their feelings with the rest of the class. You can screen share your PowerPoint or Google Slides with the questions on a zoom call and the students will have to take turns to answer
